Handling & operation of the Vitamix A2500i

Vitamix A2500i Ascent Series handling

The Vitamix Pro A2500i comes with all the operating features that are considered modern these days. In addition to manual control, there are 3 time programmes that end automatically after the blending process.
The jog dial and the two toggle switches are used as operating elements. These controls are accompanied by a display that either shows the blending time, or the remaining time when using the time programs.
In addition to manual control, the Vitamix A2500i offers a total of 3 time programs, which Vitamix calls "Smart Blending":

Smart Blending in the Vitamix A2500i: 3 time programs that leave more time for the important things in everyday life

  1. Smoothies: A perfect (green) smoothie is waiting for you after just 45 seconds
  2. Ice: After 55 seconds, the container is full of creamy ice cream
  3. Warm soups: Filled with raw vegetables, the A2500i creates an drinkable-hot soup in 5:45 minutes. But be careful: Let the soup cool down a bit, otherwise you'll burn your tongue!

The programs are tried and tested. They are all well thought out and deliver what they promise. Apart from ice cream preparation, where constant manual tamping with the included tamper is unavoidable, the time programmes allow you to leave the room and have the blender do its work without anything boiling over. This way you are not exposed to the noise of the blender and you will have a creamy soup waiting for you as soon as you get back to the kitchen.

Ecological: The Vitamix A2300i has a "real" on/off switch on the right. This is easily accessible and at the same time hidden under a small cover to prevent anything from running into the grooves. Top!

Cleaning the Vitamix A2500i Ascent Series

Cleaning the Vitamix A2500i container

Cleaning the Vitamix A2500i is very simple. After emptying the container, simply rinse it under running water and you're done. If you have prepared a white smoothie with fatty ingredients such as avocado, nuts or oil, fill the container with water and a drop of detergent - the cleaning program will do the rest. Then rinse the container under running water.

Our cleaning recommendation: Regardless of manufacturer instructions, we advise against cleaning the container, container lid, and insert in the dishwasher. Our experience shows that you can extend the lifespan of the container through manual cleaning.

Cleaning the Vitamix A2500i motor block

The container sits on a rubber mat, which can be removed and cleaned under running water if necessary.

Due to the smooth surface, the rest of the motor block can easily be cleaned with a damp cloth.

Vitamix Dry Grains Container Smart for coffee or cereals

If you regularly grind coffee or cereals, the Vitamix Dry Grains Container Smart is recommended. For occasional grinding, the normal "wet" containers are also suitable. The containers may become blind/cloudy over time, making it difficult to see the containers content. This may not matter when grinding, but when blending pesto, which needs to have a very specific consistency, it is important to see when this consistency is reached in order to stop the blender at the right time.

Vitamix A2500i Ascent Series prepare Smoothies

Safety features of the Vitamix A2500i

  • Overheat protection: to protect the motor from overheating, the Vitamix A2500i has an overheat protection feature that shuts down the motor when it gets too hot. This only happens with viscous-sticky preparations, such as dough, which slow down the blade a lot. After a break of several minutes, you can continue. In general, however, when preparing dough, we rather advise using a food processor or kneading by hand. Liquid dough for crepes or pancakes are not a problem(for which the Vitamix is often used in USA).
  • Container detection: If the lid is not attached, the blender won't turn on. The intelligent container detection (that's what the "i" in the name stands for) not only detects whether the lid is on, but also the container type. When using the small to-go containers, the speed is throttled to prevent excessive pressure in the container.

Vitamix A2500 or A2500i? Is there a difference?

Vitamix A2500i Ascent Series High Speed Blender Producing Green Smoothies

You can find information about the Vitamix A2500 and the Vitamix A2500i on the Internet, therefore the reasonable question occurs: What is the difference? The name Vitamix A2500 was first used for the blender in the USA in 2017. Vitamix then introduced a version for the German-speaking market, that includes a safety mechanism so that the blender can only start when the lid is closed. In addition, this variant is also GS-certified. In order to distinguish the two product variants and to make it clear that the A2500i variant is "smarter", the much-loved "i" is attached to the original name. Unfortunately, this also means that the US containers cannot be used on an European motor block.

Unfortunately, the increased level of safety also means that German models are not compatible with the (additional) containers from the USA. So anyone interested in the additional containers will have to wait until they are introduced to the European market.

Vitamix A2500i alternatives

Vitamix A2500i vs. Vitamix A3500i

The Vitamix A2500i is more or less the price/performance winner of the Vitamix Ascent Series:

  1. The A2500i has a handy jog dial that is perfect for everyday use.
  2. Two safety switches are used for control. They only react when pushed down all the way. Ladies with long fingernails will find the operation of the A2500i easier than that of the A3500i.
  3. By forgoing optional convenience features, the Vitamix A2500i is offered at a slightly lower price than the Vitamix A3500i.

Disadvantages compared to the Vitamix A3500i:

  1. The A3500i has two more time programmes than the A2500i. However, the smoothie program can be used ass cleaning programm and dips/spreads can easily be prepared manually.
  2. Unlike the A3500i, the Vitamix A2500i comes in 4 high-quality plastic variants instead of the stainless steel housing.
  3. The touch panel for program selection has been omitted on the A2500i. Whether this is a disadvantage is a matter of taste, just like the different looks.

Vitamix A2500i vs. Vitamix E520

Even though both mixers belong to different Vitamix series, they share some common features: Both mixers have a 2-liter container, which is suitable for medium to large batch sizes and allows for the creation of the creamiest (green) smoothies with a fluffy consistency. Additionally, both mixers are equipped with 3 time programs (smoothies, soups, and ice) in addition to the manual mode, and their compact dimensions allow them to fit under any kitchen cabinet. They can be differentiated in the following points:

Differences between Vitamix A2500i and Vitamix E520

  1. Smart Features: The Vitamix A2500i, as part of the Vitamix Ascent Series, is equipped with intelligent features. It has an automatic container lid detection, meaning it can only be started with the container properly placed. Additionally, the SELF-DETECT function recognizes the container type and adjusts the maximum speed accordingly. This is especially useful when using the small Mix & Go containers like the Vitamix 225-ml container or the Vitamix 600 ml Blending Cup. The Vitamix E520, on the other hand, belongs to the Explorian Series and does not have smart features.
  2. Digital Functions: Unlike the Vitamix E520, the Vitamix A2500i comes with a digital timer function and Bluetooth capability. It can be paired with the Vitamix Perfect Blend App via Bluetooth, which allows for features like adjusting ingredient quantities in the app's recipes to match the appropriate container size. However, the Bluetooth function has not convinced us in terms of practicality. Also the customers' feedback for the app is mixed.
  3. Warranty: While the warranty for the Vitamix A2500i has been extended to 10 years, the Vitamix E520 has a 7-year warranty..
  4. Price: The Vitamix A2500i has everything that the Vitamix E520 has, except for the price of the E520. The E520 is lower in price because it does not include smart and digital features, and its warranty is slightly shorter. If you are comfortable with that, be sure to check out the Vitamix E520:

Vitamix A2500i vs. Vitamix Pro 750

The Vitamix A2500i is an expression of Vitamix's new design philosophy:

  1. Cleaning: The new container of the A2500i is dishwasher safe. However, the fins of the lid should be cleaned separately from time to time.
  2. Safety: The A2500i features SELF-DETECT. A container detection technology based on the NFC (Near field communication) known from smartphones. This means that the blender can only be started when the container is in place. The speed is throttled and the blending time is limited for smaller containers (250 ml or 600 ml).
  3. Connectivity: The Vitamix A2500i is equipped with Bluetooth and can be paired with the Vitamix Perfect Blend app, which, for example, adjusts the ingredients in the recipes to the appropriate container size. We have not discovered any scenario where the app makes work easier.
  4. Warranty: The warranty for all Vitamix Ascent models has been extended, further 3 years add up to 10 year warranty. Secured investment for a decade!

Disadvantages compared to the Vitamix Pro 750:

  1. Appearance: Everyone defines beauty differently.
  2. Acoustics: The Vitamix Pro 750 is approx. 3 dB quieter than the A2500i (fully loaded maximum speed). In the long run, you will appreciate that. It is important to note that the key performance metrics are identical: Number of revolutions, blade length, blade tip speed.

Hello,
can I also purée hot sauces in the Vitamix A2500i?
How hot can the ingredients be?

Hello dear Evi,

thank you very much for your message.

The Vitamix Ascent is also excellent for puréeing sauces. Its long blades reach speed of up to 300 Km/h resulting in the finest blending result of all Vitamix containers.

The containers are suitable for temperatures of up to 100 degrees.

Hello, I have the Vitamix A2500i. I have tried to prepare a small portion of ice cream and found that it does not work so well. Could you please give me a little tip on how to prepare small amounts of ice cream? Thank you very much!

Question submitted by Mirjam on March 27, 2020 at 17:06 o'clock

Hello Mirjam,

Thank you for your question.
Unfortunately, "smaller" ice cream portions are best made in the 1.4-liter container. However, this is currently not available in Germany.

is it likely that the 1.4-liter container will still be available at some point? If not, that's a reason not to buy an Ascent. How can you prepare a pesto if you don't want to invite a soccer team?

Question submitted by manuela on March 2, 2020 at 18:52 o'clock

Hello Manuela,

thank you very much for your message

Unfortunately, there is still no binding commitment on the part of Vitamix, when and whether the 1.4 liter container for the Ascent series will appear on the German market. We recommend being patient and check our website from time to time.

I also have the Ascent, I always prepare a large portion of pesto and then fill it into a large jam jar.

Kind regards Alexandra

Question submitted by Alexandra on September 24, 2019 at 20:39 o'clock

Hello Alexandra,

thank you very much for your question.

The container will not go blind from occasional grinding, daily grinding however will make the container go blind. If you want to grind on a daily basis a grinding container could therefore be useful.

Thanks for your assistance,

Question submitted by Brita on December 2, 2019 at 06:31 o'clock

Hi Brita,

Yes, the A2500i has a “real” on/off switch on the right side, which of course also turns off the Bluetooth module.

However, if that bothers you in general, it might be worth looking at the Pro 750.

I currently have an Ascend with 2l container. Would you rather recommend the 0.9 liter container or the 1.4 liter container for preparations like tahini and almond paste, and grinding coffee?
Currently, these preparations don't really work with the larger 2.0 liter container…

Question submitted by Tille on August 12, 2018 at 11:40 o'clock

Hello Tille,

thank you very much for your questions.

It is indeed much easier to prepare smaller quantities of thick liquids with a smaller footprint in the container. We would therefore recommend the 1.4 liter container, but unfortunately this is not available in Europe.

The 0.9-liter containers will probably not be available for the Ascent blenders. From our perspective, this is logical, since every Vitamix container can grind just as well as the dry container.

Hi GreenSmoothies Team, I am looking for a high-speed blender that can easily stand under the wall cabinets as well as make smoothies, energy balls, almond paste, and spreads etc. I just read that for these preparations, a narrower container would be better. Will the new container, that is supposed to be launched early next year, enable me to prepare such preparations?
Thanks in advance for the feedback!

Many greetings
Sabrina

Question submitted by Sabrina on October 22, 2018 at 11:28 o'clock

Hello Sabrina,

thank you for your question.

The desired preparations are possible in the A2500i, but almond paste and energy balls would have to be prepared in the 1.4-liter container.

Unfortunately, this will apparently not be released in Europe, which is why we would currently rather recommend the Vitamix TNC 5200 or the Vitamix Pro 750 with 1.4 liter container.

Question submitted by Franzi H. on September 25, 2018 at 17:52 o'clock

yes, the Bluetooth interface is always on because the blender must be able to pair with the app.

Question submitted by Sandra on September 13, 2018 at 12:56 o'clock

Hi Sandra,

thank you very much for the questions.

For the recipes mentioned, you need a container that tapers at the bottom. This is currently not available with the Ascent models of Vitamix.

There would be the Vitamix Pro 750 with 1.4 liter container, a recommendation. It has the most powerful Vitamix motor, is the quietest Vitamix and is also suitable for smaller quantities with 1.4 liter container.

If the price is out of your budget, it's also worth checking out the Vitamix TNC 5200! A little louder, but very solid!

I live in Switzerland on the border to Germany. If I order the blender to Germany and then export at customs (stamp on invoice) I get the VAT back from you?
Then the savings would be enough for the larger model :-)

Question submitted by Steve on September 9, 2018 at 21:53 o'clock

Hi Steve,

thank you very much for the question.

Due to the extra cost of the sales tax refund, we no longer do this.

Instead, we deliver the mixers directly to Switzerland free of shipping costs and do not show any sales tax on the invoice.

As soon as you enter a Swiss address, the net prices without sales tax will be displayed.

Hello All, I am contemplating buying the Vitamix 2500i; I'm a smoothy newbie. Among other things, I would like to prepare soups – I wonder how you can tell how hot they are?
My second question is about pesto and sauces: Is it possible to make 250g portions with the container that is included in the scope of delivery?
I would appreciate a reply very much, thank you,
Jutta

Question submitted by Jutta on February 8, 2018 at 14:09 o'clock

Hello Jutta,

thank you for the question.

You can see how warm the contents of the container are by holding your hand to the container — Obviously not while the blender is turned on.

For pestos and sauces, we would use a minimum of 650 ml for the 2-liter container provided. Measuring in grams is quite difficult as it always depends on the ingredients and the quality.

Containers with smaller minimum quantities are to come. However, the launch date keeps on getting pushed back...

Currently, (as long as the additional containers are not yet available), the Pro 750 with 1.4-liter container would be more suitable for your needs.

Hello, I am wavering between The Vitamix Pro300 and the A2500i... is the performance of the devices the same and are they equally loud or is the 2500i noticeably louder? Do you have a trick to lower the volume a bit? Are time programs actually useful in everyday life?
I have compared both devices and think that neithe rof them would be a bad choice. It's a pity that there still is no smaller container for the 2500i... is it worth waiting?
Many greetings and thanks in advance.

Question submitted by Klara on July 18, 2018 at 17:02 o'clock

Hello,

thank you very much for the questions.

The performance is virtually identical on the Pro 300 and A2500i. However, the A2500i is slightly louder than the Pro 300. If you want to make a few more decibels disappear, use a noise protection mat, which we also offer.

About the time programs: The most used program will be the smoothie program (45 seconds) and once you start using it, you will surely get used to it.

However, we also know people who started without time programs, eventually switched to a new blender with programs, but still never used the programs....

The Pro 300 is just a little smaller and technically fully developed without too many features, and additional container availabel.

The A2500i has the smoothie program, but also takes up more space…

Hello! Will both devices, the A2500i and the A3500i be available in the anniversary bundle?

Kind regards Stefanie

Question submitted by Stefanie Hoffmann on March 5, 2018 at 14:37 o'clock

Hi Stephanie,

Thank you for your question.

As of now, there will be no set discounts for the A2500i :(

Hello,

the container of the A2500i is two litres, but only a medium plunger is included in the delivery. Is this indented to be this way?

Stephanie

Hi Stephanie,

thank you for your question.

The Vitamix tampers are always designed so that they reach as deep as possible into the container WITHOUT touching the blades. You would blend the long tamper, until it is as long as the middle one! ;-)

The middle tamper has therefore the optimum length for the Vitamix A2500i.

Hello, is there a minimum amount required?
I mainly prepare smoothies for myself. So far, I've always had about 300ml max. as breakfast.
Does that work with the 2l container?
Greetings Stefanie

Question submitted by Stefanie Hoffmann on April 28, 2018 at 12:17 o'clock

Hello Stefanie,

thank you for your question.

The A2500i only makes sense from about 500 ml.
A Vitamix TNC 5200 (from 250 ml) would be much better suited for your needs.

Hello,
regarding the availability of the smaller containers, Vitamix Germany replied this:
The smaller containers (1.4 liters, 0.6 liters and 0.25 liters) are expected to be launched in Germany at the end of April

Can hardly wait to be able to order these here ;)

Regards
Nina

Question submitted by Nina Seichter on January 20, 2018 at 16:17 o'clock

Hello Nina,
thank you for your question.

We checked with the main distributor for Germany again today and the dates are still given as follows. The small containers with adapters are for the end of November 2018 at the earliest, and there is no known release date for the 1.4 liter container.

It is also important to note that the additional containers and adapter already available in America will NOT fit the units available in Germany.

The devices here are called A2500i and A3500i … in America they're only called A2500. The i at the end means that in Germany, there is a container recognition via a built-in chip in the container. The blender will not start if this sensor is not recognized.

Good day,
is the delivery date, 31.01.2018, for the A2500i fixed, or is it possible that the date will be delayed?
Is there already news about the small containers, 240ml and 600 ml?

Question submitted by Mimi on December 12, 2017 at 17:07 o'clock

Hello Mimi,

Thank you for the question.

1. The Jan. 31, 2018 deadline is set, and we honestly do not expect any delays, although of course we can never completely sure. If, for example, we only receive a limited quantity of devices by the deadline, those who ordered first will obviously have priority.

2. The smaller containers (600 ml and 225 ml) are announced for the end of November 2018.

Hello, will there also be a dry container available?

Question submitted by Brigitte on October 30, 2017 at 11:41 o'clock

Hello Brigitte,

thank you for your question.

According to our latest information, there will be no dry container for the Vitamix Ascent series. We can understand this, as we have achieved the same grinding results in the Vitamix wet containers.

Hello,

will the smaller container for the A2500i also be available in Germany? If so, when will this be available?

Many greetings,
Simon

Peace again
My wife bought the thing without consulting me .... first I was pissed.
Without further ado I bought a regular blender to teach her better.
That backfired, I am now thrilled and no longer want to renounce our Vitamix A2500i. Have also ordered the Family Set, I use it mostly for marinades - my wife for salad dressing.

My kitchen hero
Hello dear,
I have had the blender for over a year now, incl 2 small cups and 1x smoothie cup.
He runs between 1-4x a day.
- Humus (weekly)
- Smoothies (more fruit than green)
- Salad marinades in the small cups
- Puddings (chia, flaxseed, psyllium husks with plant milk and fruit)
- plant dips and mayo
- from time to time plants milk from rice (cooked)
With almond or coconut nut mousse
- steamed vegetables to cream soup
- from time to time crush nuts
- Rice- buckwheat- grind and prepare the pancake mass in it

We are totally satisfied and the mini cups often help me for small fine things with little quantity.
It would be good for us as a small household, sometimes to have a smaller cup for ice cream and hummus - but we have arranged.

The 3 programs are great and also the recognition of the cup size and whether everything is locked in place.
Top is the lever for turning off the power.
I would buy it again as small cups are worth their weight in gold for me and the suitability for the dishwasher!
