3 stage filter cartridge

The Lotus Vita filter cartridge has three filtration layers:

  • Pre-filter reduces lime with ion exchanger and activated carbon.
  • Stage 1 reduces pollutants with activated carbon, it among others, removes, nitrate and heavy metals.
  • Stage 2 reduces pollutants with high performance activated carbon, with an iodine retention capacity of 1200. Best filter performance with almost all known possible contaminants of the tap water.
  • Stage 3 enhances the taste with magnesium, calcium, tourmaline and other special ceramics with high mineral content, as well as quartz sand, magnets and EM ceramics (EM=Effective Microorganisms according to Prof. Dr. Teruo Higa)

I would like to reduce my consumption of plastic and take an active part in it.
If I decide to use this water filter, I will produce more plastic waste with about 6 cartridges/year. This waste problem continues to scale with the number of users of such a system.
However, I would love to use a water filter, what solution do you have on the issue of sustainability of your filter cartridge?

Question submitted by Marco Rud on September 12, 2022 at 09:55 o'clock

Hello Marco,
thank you for your message.
Sustainability and environmentally conscious action is also a major concern for us.
Unfortunately, there are currently no alternatives to the filter systems with plastic coating.
It is extremely complicated to use glass, for example, but we are working on appropriate solutions. Unfortunately, it is not yet foreseeable when these will be available.
Best regards,
Your Green

Hello, now the question has been asked here several times what the cartridge is actually made of. The answer was plastic. "Good plastic"! Whatever that may mean... would be nice to know more details about this "good plastic". What is it called? What about BPA, for example? Best regards, Claudia.

Question submitted by Claudia on November 11, 2022 at 13:44 o'clock

Hello Claudia,

thank you very much for your message.

Lotus Vita answers the question: "Are there bisphenol or other plasticizers in the plastic of Lotus Vita devices?"
as follows:
"All plastics used by Lotus Vita are TÜV Süd tested and food safe.
The Lotus filter cartridges are made of single-grade PP (polypropylene), this material is particularly neutral. The housing of the Lotus cartridges is elaborately highly polished, which minimizes contact and interaction with the water.
Bisphenol A is not used in any Lotus Vita product.
Lotus Vita filters are produced with ultrasound, click system or heat, adhesives are not used.
We are aware of the responsibility and do our best to provide high quality products for our customers."

Hello, how do I notice when to change the filter? Is this indicated somewhere? Or should I simply follow the recommendation of two to three months, depending on consumption? LG, Beate

Question submitted by Beate on April 5, 2022 at 16:23 o'clock

Hello Beate,
thank you for your message.
Since the water consumption is different for each user and water qualities vary, it is difficult to name an exact lifetime of a filter cartridge.
It is generally said, at 2 – 8 litres of water consumption per day, the cartridge lasts 2-3 months.
Unfortunately, there is no indication of when replacement is necessary.

Do the filters and the cartridge itself release their own (harmful) substances into the filtered water? And are the "effective microorganisms" harmless?

Question submitted by Lena on April 9, 2021 at 15:59 o'clock

Hello Lena,

thank you very much for your message

The cartridge and the housing itself do not emit any harmful substances. The plastic used, is a "good" plastic, however, we ourselves are proponents of plastic-free items
The effective microorganisms provide re-mineralization of the filtered water. Result: The pH value of the water shifts to slightly alkaline and tastes wonderfully soft.
The eM absolutely harmless to health

Do bacteria accumulate in the activated carbon part? Is the water still good after 2 months, or is it loaded with germs?

Question submitted by Krissi on September 9, 2021 at 22:19 o'clock

Hello Krissi,

Thank you very much for your message.

Bacteria and harmful germs cannot form if the water remains hygienic, i.e., you should filter at least 2.0 litres of water per day and change the cartridge every 2-3 months

Kind regards from Berlin!

Yes hello,
Why is the iodine removed? I have iodine deficiency. Thanks a lot

Question submitted by Iris on March 7, 2021 at 15:02 o'clock

Hello Iris,

Thank you very much for your question.
For all filters that filter with activated carbon, a so-called iodine number (iodine retention capacity) is always specified.
The iodine number is the decisive parameter for the adsorption performance of an activated carbon filter and is given in mg/g.
This is the standard procedure for liquid applications.

So, it actually not only is about the exemplary iodine, but about molecules in general.

Germany is considered to be an iodine deficiency area anyway, but nowadays, you can easily supply yourself with iodine,
e.g., via iodized salt or food supplements.

All the best,

Hello All,
Are 2 lime filter pads included If you buy the filter cartridge separately?

Thank you in advance

Question submitted by Susie on January 7, 2021 at 09:01 o'clock

Hi Susie,

Thank you very much for your message.

The individual cartridges do not come with a lime filter pad.
A Lime filter package that should last a year can be found here: Lotus Vita Limescale Filter Pad - Annual Set.

Best regards from Berlin :-)

Hello, I would like to know what material the cartridge is made off. Would be a pity if it is plastic...

Question submitted by Kiki on April 25, 2021 at 21:07 o'clock

Hello Kiki,

thank you very much for your message.

Unfortunately, you are right, the filter is made of plastic.
It is very difficult to make this component from glass, many manufacturers are working on this project!

Good evening! In which rubbish can I dispose the cartridge and the pads?

Question submitted by Gi on October 1, 2021 at 20:37 o'clock

Hello Gi,

Thank you for your question.
According to the manufacturer, you can dispose them in the residual waste.

Many greetings,

Do you have the filter cartridge with the micro sponge instead of the lime filter? Our tap water has a low lime value. Or would you still (generally) recommend the lime filter?

Many greetings, Kerstin

Question submitted by Kerstin on August 5, 2019 at 22:26 o'clock

Hello Kerstin,

thank you very much for your question.

We only offer the lime filter pads as pre-filters for the Lotus filter carafes in our store
If the performance water in your case has a low lime content, then according to the manufacturer it would make sense to use the micro sponge as a pre-filter

Many greetings

Hello,
what is the filtering property for microplastic? We get our water in reusable water tanks, where the plastic abrasion probably is quite high.

Question submitted by Josef on April 7, 2018 at 11:05 o'clock

Hello Josef,

thank you very much for your question.

Microplastics, such as those used in toothpaste, sunscreen or various exfoliants, are filtered out.
Unfortunately, we cannot tell you exactly what the situation would be like with your water tanks.

Kind regards from Berlin

Water tastes good. It looks good. Lime filter is optional (want to keep the calcium in the water, so I don't use one). Comes closest to the natural filtering process.

Recommendable!
I love these cartridges! Every time I put in a new one, the water tastes better again. I think it's because of the magnesium(?) that the cartridges put into the water. I look forward to every filter change. You can't even buy water this tasty!
