Kale Smoothie Recipe with Tropical Fruits

Kale Smoothie

The kale smoothie: arguably the healthiest food in the world, filled with vitamins from the roots to the tips of the leaves. In combination with tropical fruits, kale becomes a real energy drink.
The season has just begun, and we are once again experimenting to find a new kale smoothie recipe. Compared to black cabbage, kale has a stronger taste, therefore it is better to combine it with other leafy vegetables. Postelein is great to mix with kale, as it is a mild winter salad. You can currently find it at weekly markets and in organic-stores.

Green smoothies have been my replacement for morning cerals since 2009. They are inspiring, delicious and speak for themselves. They fit into our lives with five kids and lots of joy in creative healthy cooking. I really love to prepare or create new smoothies. Inspired by the Green Smoothie, I combine two of my passions with my job: taking pictures and working with food.

Now I see that my question below has basically already been answered. Sorry...?

Double the asking, better the holding. :) We remove the stems from the kale or black cabbage, as it otherwise has a very dominant taste. I would recommend doing the same with large Swiss chard leaves – they can taste very earthy otherwise. Unless, of course, you enjoy those flavors. Best regards, Carla

I'm a newbie when it comes to kale. Do you cut the curly leaves off the stem, or do you just throw the whole "leaf" into the green smoothie? Thanks for the answer. Best, Nina

Hello, what happens if I blend the stem of the kale? Is that unhealthy? Thank you in advance for your feedback.

That's not unhealthy; it's purely a matter of taste. The stems of kale have a very cabbage-like flavor and are slightly spicy as well. If that doesn't bother you, you can definitely blend them in. Just give it a try. Best, Carla
