Chia seed recipe with warm strawberry sauce

This recipe is dedicated to all porridge fans - and I can gladly count myself among them. Chia seeds thicken this porridge and give it a good portion of the important omega-3 fatty acids. This combination with the freshly prepared warm strawberry sauce tastes just DREAMFUL and gives the green smoothie some decent breakfast competition.

Chia seed recipe with almond milk and mango

I think this was the first chia pudding I tried. After that it was immediately clear, sophisticated desserts can be so simple. Chia pudding also reminds me a bit of a healthy version of panna cotta. This recipe is combined with a tropical mango puree and doesn't need any additional sweeteners, because a really ripe mango brings enough sweetness with it. In addition, there is the flavor of almond milk, which can be prepared very easily and quickly from almond paste and water.

Chia seed recipe for vanilla pudding with fresh strawberries

Strawberries, vanilla and lemon balm in combination with chia-almond-milk-pudding - everything just fits! It fits best using Tahitian vanilla, the queen of all vanilla beans. Tahitian vanilla is expensive, but also more flavorful. It is available in well-stocked delicatessen stores. I am curious to hear what you have to say about it.

Chia pudding recipe with blueberries

Chia seed pudding invites layering because it simply brings the perfect consistency to do so. I think it looks best when you layer two contrasting colors. Blueberries, for example, are great for this. In addition, poppy seeds are added, they not only fits visually, they are extremely good suppliers of iron and calcium.

Chia pudding recipe with oriental date cream and toasted sesame seeds

A true chia fusion recipe: the Inca gold meets Indian chai flavors - cardamom, cinnamon, vanilla - topped with toasted sesame seeds. The pudding is beautifully smooth, thanks to the pulp of a fresh green coconut. If you don't have a source for this, just use raw coconut puree. (the tastiest is from Big Tree Farms) After enjoying this dessert, I am somewhere in 1001 nights...

Chia seed recipe for nutty chocolate drink

Of course, this also works with chia seeds - a shake with raw cacao and hazelnuts. I especially like the intense roasted aromas of the hazelnuts here. The Medjool dates and the frozen bananas provide enough sweetness, at the same time they cool down the shake. Definitely a nutritious afternoon snack - especially for chocolate lovers and children.

Chia seed recipe wiht fresh coconut water and red currants

Legends say that the Incas had enough energy for a whole day with one tablespoon of chia seeds during their missions across the Andes. Many endurance athletes - especially marathon runners and triathletes - have been inspired by this and regularly eat chia seeds to naturally replenish their nutrient reservoirs after long training sessions. This gave me the idea of combining chia seeds with the most natural of all isotonic drinks: fresh coconut water. In the Refresher category: there is a competition between the Chia Energizer and the Green Smoothie. Try it out.

Green smoothies have been my replacement for morning cerals since 2009. They are inspiring, delicious and speak for themselves. They fit into our lives with five kids and lots of joy in creative healthy cooking. I really love to prepare or create new smoothies. Inspired by the Green Smoothie, I combine two of my passions with my job: taking pictures and working with food.

A question for how many people are the chia recipes?
1/16/2020

Hi Maren,

it always depends a bit on how hungry you are, right? Most recipes yield an amount (specified in the recipe) of 400 to 500 ml - that should be enough for about 3-5 people.

Hi Svenja! Wow, that's a great selection of recipes with chia seeds. I love how (almost) all of them are vegan! Chia seeds are so versatile, I adore them. And the best part is: ever since I got my Vitamix (the Vitamix Pro 750 here), I can blend the seeds so finely that you can't even tell they're there. Now I add them to every smoothie I make! Amazing! Hugs, Yvi.

Hi Svenja and Carla,

huge compliments to you! It’s such a joy to spend time on your blog. By the way, the photos are simply fantastic! Just looking at them is a true delight! :)

The fact that you even make almond milk yourselves is just amazing. I’m sure it’s much healthier than what you get from the grocery store, but I can imagine it’s quite time-consuming.

I absolutely love mango.. I must try the Tropical Chia.. but also the CHOCOLATE CHIA SHAKE.. it looks soooo delicious!! :)

For my Sunday brunch, I often prepare an Açai smoothie with oranges, bananas, and cashews, and add a bit of date syrup.. it tastes great.

Thank you so much for all your diverse recipes and your creative ideas - simply brilliant!

I’ll definitely be back to visit soon!

Best wishes,

Thank you very much for the wonderful recipes! If I'm not mistaken, animal and plant sources provide omega-3 fatty acids of different lengths, so I believe the comparison between chia seeds and salmon isn't quite accurate.
9/6/2016
Carla von GrüneSmoothies.de
Thank you for the lovely feedback on the recipe! I also appreciate your note - it’s true that the Omega-3 from chia seeds can't really be compared to that from salmon, as it’s not as readily absorbed by the body. I’ve updated that section in the text accordingly. It’s great to have attentive readers!

I have now read that flaxseed can be a substitute for chia. In terms of taste, it doesn't quite measure up to chia for me. What do you think? I've heard from others that flaxseed needs to be processed so fresh that it's hardly feasible, otherwise it can be quite toxic. It definitely has a distinctly bitter aftertaste. In your opinion, is there an optimal way to use flaxseed, and does it compare nutritionally to chia?

Best wishes!

Ceec
Hello everyone, what is the deal with the nutrient absorption of chia seeds? Studies have shown that only in ground form do the serum levels (like Omega-3) change, and otherwise, they are simply "undigested" and excreted. Do you have any experience with that? Best regards.
5/27/2016
Nora von GrüneSmoothies.de
That's right, nutrients are best absorbed from ground chia seeds. The body can't break down the seeds on its own to access the nutrients, which is why some of them are excreted undigested. While that's a bit unfortunate, whole seeds can be more filling, which can be helpful when trying to lose weight.
5/30/2016
Ceec
That is, if I want to access the proteins and micronutrients, I should grind them beforehand. If I only want to take advantage of the soaking effect, is soaking them in water sufficient? Thank you very much for the answer, best regards from Switzerland.
5/31/2016
Nora von GrüneSmoothies.de
Exactly, grinding chia seeds for better nutrient absorption - and letting whole seeds soak. Best regards, Nora.
